dyslexic, neuro diverse thinkers are fab |
Hi blog readers
I think we have to remember there are many successful dyslexics out there. Successful doctors, scientists, writers, mechanics, actors etc. We can thrive and reach the top in many professions just as well as any non dyslexic out there.
I know being dyslexic at school can be no fun at all. Struggling to survive in an education system that singularly fails us from our first day in school to the last. For many kids school must see like purgatory. I talk with many parents of dyslexic kids and it is no exaggeration to say that many parents hearts are broken on a daily basis when they see their kids struggling at school.
We don't do so well at school because our education systems are inherently dyslexic, neuro diverse and disability unfriendly.
But we can overcome this and succeed. We can have a future in spite of all our negative experiences at school. That is a message we must share with every dyslexic child at school and every dyslexic adult.
In my role as a dyslexia specialist I have supported many dyslexic students at university on degree, masters degree and PhD course. Many of them shared the same struggles at school as many other dyslexics and the vast majority succeeding in their chosen academic field.
This world would be a poorer place if it were not for our unique dyslexic minds:
